Although retail management, and then training consultancy, were the foundations of my career I now have over twenty-four years’ experience as a senior trade association executive, thirteen as chief executive of the National Association of Goldsmiths (NAG) where I advised and led a diverse membership – ranging from SMEs to multi-national retailers – during a decade of dramatic change. Under my direction the NAG completed some milestone developments: creating the NAG Institute of Registered Valuers; acting as a founding member of the Responsible Jewellery Council; establishing the Executive Development Forum; setting up a joint Ethics Committee with other trade organisations; co-operating with the world jewellery federation CIBJO; and setting up SaferGems, a national intelligence sharing initiative to counter crime in the Jewellery, Antiques and Fine Art Trades.
I was a Board Member of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), and have twice been recognised by my jewellery sector peers by inclusion in the Professional Jeweller Hot 100 list. A Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, I am also a former President, Board member, and current Fellow of the Institute of Association Management, and have held a number of non-executive and Trustees positions. As an independent consultant my specialisms are strategy, communications, and public affairs.
